Relationships: my primary gain from music education.

Some of my favorite memories of sitting with different stand partners over the years are remembering the pieces that we played while sitting together.

The primary gain of my music education: relationships. Okay, I also gained a degree and employment because of music, but I would have never stayed engaged with music long term if it weren’t for the people I met and worked with along the way. I love making music and learning string playing technique, but even above that I love the connection it affords me with other people. I love being the student of someone wiser than me. I love being a player in a group of musicians. I love being a teacher. I love the relationships that stem from all of those interactions. Almost all of the most important people in my life who I’m close with today I have connected with over and through music. What does music mean to you? How does it make you feel? Who has it connected you with? Maybe you don’t play an instrument yet, but I imagine you have had connection to music (or a special song) at some point in your life. I would love to hear about it.
