Music lessons that make your life easier…

At Virtual Orchestra School we know that you want your child (or yourself) to have meaningful musical experiences. The problem is that driving ONE MORE PLACE is just a bridge too far (literally). This makes you feel frustrated and like a failure because you “can’t do it all.” As a busy parent I know I have felt that way before— it’s why I started my studio!

With Virtual Orchestra School quality music lessons are just a click away– no more schlepping all your kids around town through traffic for music lessons.

Who else has had a miserable waiting room experience with a younger sibling (or a few)? I’m over here raising my hand with you!

During lessons at VOS students can engage in quality instruction** that teaches new musical skills, builds self esteem, and unleashes creativity while the rest of the family is comfortable in their home. This makes parents feel less stressed and happy.

Allow me to give you the gift of time in your home and take one driving task off your plate.

Private Lessons for school age students…

Is your child struggling in their orchestra class and they need help catching up?

Is your child excelling at their instrument and ready to take their playing to an even higher level?

Do you have a child who hasn’t found their place yet and just needs something and you are thinking maybe that thing could be violin, viola, or cello?

Whichever of these categories your child falls into private lessons are a great way to support their growth and success on their instrument. After many years in the classroom I have the unique experience and knowledge of knowing exactly what 6-12 grade students need to know to succeed and I’m ready to help them accomplish their goals. Don’t take my word for it—book your free consultation today and let the learning commence!

Private Lessons for adult beginners…

What do a gym owner, a bride to be, an IT guru (who’s going back to school), an international tax attorney (who’s a grandparent), a marketing CEO, and a work from home mom all have in common? They are all adult beginners in my studio!

I don’t know about you, but the last few years has caused me to totally reevaluate the ways in which I spend my time. All of my students have expressed and common sentiment to me, “I want to do something that is just for me that I enjoy. It isn’t work and it isn’t family related—it’s just for me. So that’s why I signed up for lessons.”

Virtual Orchestra School private lessons are perfect for adult beginners who have never played before and want to learn violin, viola, or cello– or even someone who has an played in their youth and wants to reconnect with their musical roots. About half of my studio is made up of adult students and they all say that they love using their brain in a different way than what is required in their usual daily routine. Don’t just wonder if it’s right for you–come find out for yourself!

Don’t take our word for it – here’s what our studio parents say:

**What exactly are quality lessons? I’m glad you asked!

I open up Instagram and see way too many posts about people who use free videos on YouTube to try to learn their instrument. The truth is that these students will plateau quickly without frequent feedback from a teacher about their progress and the inherent bad playing posture is hard to correct down the road. Don’t let yourself be this kid—please!!

During my 12 years as a public school orchestra director I can’t tell you how many experienced students showed up to the first day of orchestra class unable to play in an ensemble. This left the students discouraged (and embarrassed) and their parents frustrated about the time, money, and energy spent investing in lessons over the past few years only to find out that they had huge knowledge gaps and were unable to participate fully. These students were busy playing catch up on on note reading and learning basic ensemble skills while less experience players were leaving them behind and widening the achievement gap—further negatively impacting the child’s fragile middle school self esteem. How do I know all of this? Well, outside of witnessing this happen as a teacher—I was this kid.

I started Suzuki violin lessons at age five. Six years later I went into middle school orchestra completely unprepared— I couldn’t read any music. I was the best player in the room with the least functional ensemble skills that are necessary when playing in an orchestra. Even then nobody taught me to read music—I just had to figure it out on my own (spoiler alert: it took years). While I was struggling to learn to read notes on my own other kids were learning vibrato so I missed that too (this also took a long time to self teach). I have wondered how much better I could have been at an earlier age if I had been better prepared and didn’t have to self teach so much. At Virtual Orchestra School your child will never have this same wondering. The lessons are thoughtfully designed to prepare students in class for all aspects of instrumental playing out in the real world.
